Density (or volume) measurements, at atmosferic pressure, are a simple way to obtain the heat expansion coeficient
There is an Anton Paar DMA-5000 densitometer in our Section, with a homemade injection system. It has been calibrated by means of distilled water and octylcyanobiphenyl (8CB), a liquid crystal for which it is easy to find high resolution measurements in the literature. Available temperature rank goes from -10 and 90 ºC.
